I have developed a basic theory from the viewpoint of narratives, regarding design activities as a dialogue in which problems and solutions “co-evolve”. The basic theory, named “Design Narratives as Worldmaking,” integrates the previously separate disciplines of design studies, innovation theory, and narrative theory from a single theoretical perspective to create innovations. It views design as a device for world creation. Design has the power of worldmaking not only to conceive a new world, but also to realize it.
