Building and Evaluating Services for Medical Facilities Using Service Robots

In the medical field of the Corona Disaster, there is a serious shortage of nurses in the labor force. It is an issue at hand to supplement the labor force not only in nursing but also in the medical field as much as possible. This study aims to reduce the nursing workload by using a telepresence robot, and to examine the effectiveness, safety, and feasibility of its introduction. As candidates for demonstration sites, we assume that the demonstration will be conducted in a pediatric ward, where the robot is expected to have a healing effect, or in a corona ward, where access to people is restricted to prevent infection, and will target people with relatively minor illnesses. The feasibility will be examined by demonstrating three possible use cases (medicine distribution by robot, remote visits with family members, and remote rounds by robot) and one new use case to be devised based on interviews with nurses at these locations.
