Design for SDGs / Global Goals Jam

Global Goals Jam (GGJ) is a two-day international citizen participatory workshop to think about sustainability from a global perspective and generate ideas for solving local issues toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This is a global effort to contribute to the SDGs by using design methods and the design sprint process as a common language, and by bringing together the creative ideas and strengths of designers, engineers, researchers, citizens, and various other people. More than 1,000 ideas have been generated through participation. The results are published on the Internet under a Creative Commons license and become shared knowledge around the world.
GGJ2021 connected Asian cities, Fukuoka, Kyoto, and Yamaguchi in Japan, and Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, to hold a trans-local workshop under the theme of “Trans-local: Online Interaction Across Regions,” taking advantage of the full online environment. The design process involved understanding, defining, ideating, and proposing proposals on the following six social issues.
1. Not just schools. A society where everyone can learn by self-selection.
2. What would inclusive play look like that everyone could enjoy together?
3. How might we create a mechanism to positively change the relationship between urban and rural areas
4. How might we implement circular economy in society?
5. How might we move away from destructive development and create a livable ecological restoration model
6.How can we change people’s attitudes toward waste disposal and stop the destruction of landfills?
After the design workshop, some teams are continuing their activities and to implement their ideas in society.
