  • Industrial Design
  • Product Design

My specialty is industrial design. For almost 20 years, I have been designing products, services, and brands for a major consumer electronics manufacturer. Industrial design covers all kinds of design related to industry. Today, as the industrial structure in Japan and around the world continues to change drastically, the industrial design field is expanding more and more to include not only products, UI/UX, services, and brands, but also business, management, and social systems. At the University, Therefore, I promote design research and practical projects with companies and local government on products, services, brands, regional development and regional industrial revitalization, etc., while considering next-generation design concepts and methodologies based on its experience in design in the corporate sector.

Messages

Design is not something that is done at a desk, but rather something that is put into practice. Although design and business were originally inseparable, this fact was not sufficiently recognized in the past. For this reason, the current Design Strategy major is revolutionary in that it was the first to include business as a means of solidifying the relationship between design and society. However, both design and society have been changing rapidly in recent years, and to contribute to society through design and to protect themselves, designers need to know and use business all the more. For this reason, the SD Course, which combines design with full-fledged business, is indispensable for future designers, and I am confident that the students of the SD Course will become key players in designing the society in the future. I would like to use my own experience in the business world to propose a teaching method that will become a model for future design education.
